Tomorrowland
World's most spectacular electronic music festival experience in Belgium
Look, Tomorrowland isn't just a music festival — it's a parallel universe where 400,000 people from 200+ countries gather in the Belgian countryside to lose their minds to electronic beats. For two weekends each July, the town of Boom transforms into a fairy-tale wonderland complete with elaborate stages that look like they were designed by Disney on acid. The production value here makes other festivals look like high school talent shows. But here's the thing: tickets sell out in minutes, accommodation gets booked solid, and if you don't plan ahead, you'll be watching livestreams from your couch instead of dancing under the mainstage fireworks.
Culture & Context
TEMPORARY CITY RISES
Tomorrowland is not a city. It's a temporary one. Every July, the De Schorre provincial park in Boom, Belgium transforms from a quiet green space into one of the most-watched electronic music events on earth.
The town of Boom has roughly 16,000 residents. For two weekends a year, it absorbs over 400,000 people from more than 200 countries. The locals know what they signed up for.
The 2026 edition runs under the theme CONSCIENCIA (Portuguese for "conscience"), built around six core emotions: love, anger, joy, wonder, desire, and sadness. It's unusually philosophical for a festival, and the stage designs reflect it. Founded in 2005 by brothers Manu and Michiel Beers, Tomorrowland has been voted best musical event of the year five consecutive times at the International Dance Music Awards.
The festival employs 80 people year-round and 15,000 during event weekends. But here's the thing: most of those 400,000 visitors eat overpriced pizza inside the grounds, sleep in DreamVille, and leave Belgium without ever setting foot in Antwerp, 17 kilometers up the road. That's a genuine shame.
Belgium is a seriously underrated country, and Tomorrowland sits right in the middle of it.
Local Customs
BRACELETS & FLAGS
Friendship bracelet exchanges are a genuine Tomorrowland tradition — people bring bracelets from their home countries to trade with strangers. It sounds cheesy until you're standing in a crowd and someone hands you one from Brazil.. Flag waving is a crowd ritual.
Bring your country's flag. Waving it during the main stage set is how you find your people in a 75,000-person crowd.. The Gathering on Thursday evening is DreamVille's pre-party, exclusive to campers.
Past surprise headliners have included Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, and Tiësto. You can bring your own drinks from the campsite to save money. Don't miss this..
Everything inside the festival is cashless. Load your Pearls before you walk through the gate. The top-up booths inside exist but have queues.
Pre-loading online is faster.. Day pass holders cannot re-enter after leaving. Full Madness Pass holders get one entry per day across the three days.
Know which ticket you have before you plan your day.. Belgian beer culture is serious. In Antwerp and Ghent, order a pintje (small lager) at the bar, or point to what you want.
Proost (prohst) is the standard toast — gezondheid (khuh-ZOND-hait) also works, or just santé if you're feeling French.. Belgians appreciate when you try Dutch, even badly. A Dank je (thank you) or Alstublieft (please) in Antwerp goes further than you'd expect from a country where everyone speaks English..
In DreamVille, wake-up is typically around 9 AM with loud hardstyle music. This is not optional. Pack earplugs if you want any shot at sleeping in.
Safety
WATCH YOUR POCKETS
Tomorrowland draws organized pickpocket gangs. This is documented, not speculation. Belgian police have arrested 21 pickpockets at a single festival edition, including a Colombian gang operating primarily during Weekend 1 who were later tracked to an apartment in Brussels. Reports of bag slashings, stolen phones, watches, and wallets are consistent year-over-year. Keep valuables in a front-facing bag or money belt. If you're camping in Magnificent Greens, rent a locker — tents have been entered while people were at the stages.
The festival is fully cashless using Pearls. Only top up your wristband with what you need; don't load your entire travel budget onto it at once. Unused Pearls are refundable after the event if loaded via credit card.
A past attendee flagged the lack of free water refill stations as a genuine safety concern, especially in hot July weather. Water was reportedly being sold in small cans for €4 each. Pack a reusable bottle and check current policy before you go — hydration in summer heat while dancing for 12 hours is not optional.
Drug enforcement is active. Police test seized substances on-site; 880 samples at one festival showed MDMA, ketamine, and cocaine were most common. Fines for small amounts are substantial. Belgian law applies.
On transport: 36 taxis were removed from service at one festival for illegal pickup operations. Use official transport or pre-booked services. Random unlicensed cabs outside the festival are a known scam vector.
Getting Around
TRAIN OR SHUTTLE
The festival site is De Schorre, Schommelei 1, 2850 Boom — a 75-hectare park about 16 km south of Antwerp and 32 km north of Brussels. There are several ways in, and only some of them are smart after midnight.
TRAIN: From Antwerp Central, trains run every 30 minutes to Boom, take about 32 minutes, and cost €4–8. This is the cleanest option. From Brussels, go via Mechelen — total journey is 1–1.5 hours and costs around €10.
OFFICIAL SHUTTLES: Tomorrowland runs dedicated shuttles from Boom station to the festival grounds. Shuttle departures begin around noon; return shuttles run back until approximately 1 AM. Shuttles also operate from a long list of Belgian and Dutch cities (Aalst, Brugge, Brussels, Ghent, Gent, Hasselt, Leuven, Liège, and more). Check the official website for the current schedule — some premium ticket packages include shuttle access.
PARTY TRAIN FROM PARIS: New for 2026. Tomorrowland introduced a direct party train running from Paris to Boom, with entertainment and music onboard. Book through the Tomorrowland official site as an add-on.
LATE-NIGHT WARNING: This is the part every veteran repeats. Late trains back from Boom are unreliable after midnight. If you're staying off-site and relying on trains, either leave before the final set or book a shuttle in advance. One traveler missed the hotel shuttle in Boom's large touring bus parking lot and ended up paying €100 for a cab back to Brussels. Plan for this reality, not the optimistic scenario.
FLYING IN: Brussels Airport (BRU) is 14 miles from Boom. Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), Düsseldorf (DUS), and Paris CDG are alternative options with solid train connections into Belgium.
