101 Hotel
Nordic minimalist cool — monochrome interiors designed by Ingibjörg S. Pálmadóttir, tree-trunk tables, classic Philippe Starck and Eero Saarinen furniture pieces, wood-burning fireplace in the lounge, and a glass-ceilinged bar that doubles as the social heart of the building.
Request a room on the Harpa Concert Hall side of the building if noise is a concern — the main street side picks up weekend foot traffic
Why It Matters
Iceland's first boutique hotel and a founding Design Hotels member. The building has genuine history — it was the headquarters of a major Icelandic political party — and the designer is also the original owner, which gives the place a singular, personal vision you don't get at chain properties. Rooms have geothermal water in the bathtubs and Bang & Olufsen speakers, not as PR points but just as standard features.
A 1930s office block—once home to the Icelandic Social Democratic Party—turned into Iceland's original boutique hotel. The whole place runs on a strict black-and-white palette, with matte and glossy finishes, geothermal water filling the freestanding tubs, and Icelandic artwork on every wall. It sits on a busy downtown corner with Harpa Concert Hall on one side and Laugavegur's bars and shops on the other. Everything in the city is walkable from here.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A rotating and permanent collection of work by Icelandic artists displayed throughout the hotel's public spaces and rooms. It's a real gallery, not just hotel art — curated by the owner/designer, Ingibjörg S. Pálmadóttir, with pieces scattered everywhere from the lobby to the corridors.
The 24-hour concierge team arranges tours, day trips, and excursions around Iceland. The hotel is also a central pickup point for many standard Iceland day trips (Golden Circle, South Coast, etc.).
The hotel has a curated walking route through Reykjavík hosted on Komoot as part of the Design Hotels Walks program. Good for exploring the city on foot at your own pace.
