Why It Matters
The actual building is a listed landmark — the former Office for Electricity and Harbour Construction, the oldest surviving structure in HafenCity. That's not marketing copy; it's a building with architectural integrity that most boutique hotels have to fake.
This is Hamburg's oldest HafenCity building, and 25hours has done something smart with it: kept the bones intact — exposed brick, high ceilings, the ghost of a working port — and layered in a contemporary captain's-quarters aesthetic by Augsburg design firm Dreimeta. The result is 49 rooms that feel genuinely considered rather than themed, with headboards fashioned from old doors and nautical accoutrements (anchors, lifeboat rings, globes) that don't tip over into kitsch. Small, by design — and better for it.

The harbour master's quarters. At around 45 sqm, these are the biggest rooms in the building, and they come with a personal Schindelhauer bike as part of the deal — not a hire, yours for the stay. A selection of filter coffee and tea is included on top. Sitting area, full amenities, and enough space to actually feel like you're not in a ship's cabin.

A meaningful step up from Medium at 35 sqm, with a proper seating area. Can accommodate a cot or extra bed, which makes this the practical pick for families or anyone who wants room to spread out after a full day in HafenCity. Some Large rooms include a relaxing bathtub.

The entry-level cabin, and honestly still a good-looking room. At 25 sqm it's compact — this is a working port building, not a grand hotel — but Dreimeta's design makes clever use of the space. Think maritime touches, exposed materials, and the same free minibar and Bluetooth speaker as the bigger categories. Right-sized for a short Hamburg stay.

A small in-hotel shop carrying emergency items for guests and locally produced Hamburg souvenirs. The fuller selection is at the sister hotel HafenCity.
On-site fitness room available to hotel guests. A gym partnership is also available for guests who want a larger facility (approx. €8/day, organisable via reception).
A cosy in-house library stocked with up to 300 books. In good weather, the adjoining terrace opens up — good for a coffee and a read between the buildings of HafenCity.
The hotel keeps a fleet of Schindelhauer bikes in various models and sizes. Guests can hire one (included complimentary in Extra Large rooms), and the hotel provides a map with pre-curated tours along the Elbe river or around the Alster lake.
Seasonal shuffleboard court set in the hotel's Lindengarten, right next to the historically listed building. Running from March through October 2026.
