Why It Matters
One of Jerusalem's first legitimately designed boutique hotels. Set in Ein Kerem — a historic village neighborhood surrounded by Judean mountain views — rather than the city center. It won TripAdvisor's Best of the Best Romantic Hotel for the Middle East across multiple consecutive years. The story behind the name is itself distinctive: Alegra Bello, a Jewish woman from Machane Yehuda who eloped with a Christian man from Ein Kerem, naming the village their shared home.
Alegra is a 14-room adults-only boutique hotel sitting inside an Arabesque stone building from 1850, in the Ein Kerem neighborhood on Jerusalem's western edge. Opened in 2011 by owners with deep roots in the village, it was designed by Lavan Architects to fuse exposed limestone walls and Persian rugs with sharp contemporary bathrooms and marble tubs. The result is something genuinely intimate — think 14 hand-crafted rooms, a fruit orchard with saunas, a rooftop wading pool, and a chef's open-kitchen restaurant. It's 15 minutes by car from the Old City, but feels like a different world entirely.

The entry-level option, but don't let that put you off. At 18 sqm, it's compact but comes with five windows looking out onto the alley or the green orchard. Signature Suite
The largest rooms in the hotel at 39 sqm. There are three of these, and they are the ones guests rave about most. Original exposed stone walls from the 1850 building, decorator touches tied to the neighborhood, spacious sitting nooks, and bathrooms with marble tubs that look out onto the garden. One guest review described it as 'more like a private retreat than a hotel room.' Complimentary wine bottle on arrival.

The sweet spot at Alegra. Ranging from 30–34 sqm, these suites feel genuinely spacious for a boutique property this size.
