Jabal Akhdar
Contemporary Omani fort meets mountain sanctuary. Earthy, serene and unapologetically remote. Think stone, dark carved wood, lanterns and canyon silence — not marble lobbies and gold fixtures.

Why It Matters
First Alila property in the Middle East, built on a literal clifftop at 2,000 meters. The setting is genuinely unlike anything else in the region. The infinity pool, perched above a 2,000-meter gorge, is one of the most photographed in the world for good reason.
Alila Jabal Akhdar sits on a sheer clifftop at 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) above sea level in Oman's Al Hajar Mountains — the first Alila property in the Middle East and still one of the most dramatically sited hotels anywhere. The architecture takes direct cues from ancient Omani forts: fort-like carved wooden doors, wooden rafters, locally sourced stone, hand-painted juniper murals by local artists, copper fixtures and woven basketry. It's LEED Silver-certified, designed by UK firm Atkins and Thailand's P49 Design. All 86 suites and villas look out over the gorge. The nearest town with a restaurant is 30 minutes away, so plan accordingly — you're here to be cocooned.
