A restored Art Nouveau mansion from the 1890s, sitting directly across from Plaza Zabala in Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja. Italian owners Cate and Dario opened it as a hotel in 2015, and the concept is simple: 15 individually designed rooms, each dedicated to a legendary Uruguayan — artists, poets, tango musicians, footballers. It's part bed-and-breakfast, part cultural introduction. No pool, no restaurant, no spa to speak of. The flagship suite, named for the legendary tango singer Gardel. Decorated in beige and grey with red detailing and vintage ceramics typical of the building's historic courtyards.
