Almaria takes Lisbon's obsession with historic buildings to its logical conclusion: actually living inside one. The Officina Real building on Rua do Loreto was once the royal pewter workshop — the Officina da Real Casa — established under the Marquis of Pombal to plate the dishes of the Portuguese Royal House. Now it's 10 individually decorated apartments where the tools and instruments of that trade are displayed on the walls as art, commissioned from local artist Cláudia Gama. It's a genuine apartment experience — fully equipped kitchen, washer-dryer, soundproofed windows — but with hotel touches like daily housekeeping and a continental breakfast stocked in your fridge each morning, with fresh bread hung at your door.
