A 122-room beachfront resort on the quieter northern end of Chaweng Beach, Anantara Lawana just completed a full renovation in November 2024. The Sino-Thai design runs throughout — birdcages in reception, shophouse-inspired architecture, hurricane lamps, hand-painted calligraphy — all telling the story of Koh Samui's Chinese merchant settlers. Nightlife is a 15-minute stroll south; the resort itself is genuinely calm.

Maritime-inspired interiors in cool blue hues — fishing lamp motifs, sea-toned fabrics. Shares a pool with between 4 and 7 other rooms (ask for the 4-villa cluster). Outdoor area has a sundeck and private sala looking onto the communal pool. Open-air bathroom with large soaking tub and rain shower amid tropical greenery. King or twin bed configuration.
Anantara Pool Suite
A walled garden sanctuary with a private plunge pool that has a suspended swing above it — good fun. Decorated in contemporary Sino-Thai style with hand-painted fabrics and bird-motif artwork celebrating Koh Samui's traditional songbird competitions. Retro-fitted shower overlooks the pool. Shaded daybeds for afternoon naps.
Anantara Pool Villa
Standalone villa with a private 3x6m plunge pool in its own walled garden. Inspired by Koh Samui's coconut farming heritage — high loft ceilings with an inverted Chinese-roof motif, a suspended daybed in the living room, four-poster bed, wooden sun deck.
