Why It Matters
The only Andaz in Canada, and one of the most deliberate expressions of the brand's 'local luxury' concept. Every detail from bath products (Byredo) to minibar snacks (Hummingbird Chocolate, Walter Caesar) to hallway art is rooted in Canada. It also holds Ottawa's highest rooftop bar and sits within a short walk of Parliament Hill and the National Gallery of Canada.
Canada's first and only Andaz opened in Ottawa's ByWard Market in 2016, and it commits hard to its identity as a national gathering place. Toronto-based Mason Studio gave each of the 16 floors a Canadian province or territory theme, artwork curated by the Canada Council Art Bank lines the hallways, and the complimentary minibar stocks local producers like award-winning Tawse Wines and Hummingbird Chocolate. The lobby mixes oak paneling, grey stone floors, and a chandelier built from mixed Canadian wood species. Up on the 16th floor, Copper Spirits & Sights holds the title of Ottawa's highest rooftop bar, with Parliament Hill framed through floor-to-ceiling glass.
