Why It Matters
Asia's first Andaz property, opened 2011. Set the template for how Hyatt's boutique brand would operate in Asia Pacific. The building's distinctive curved architecture stands out in the Xintiandi streetscape, and the Penthouse Garden suite (396 sq m with a glass-ceiling lounge, rooftop garden, and karaoke) is one of the more theatrical hotel suites in Shanghai.
The first Andaz hotel to open in Asia, this 28-story curvy tower sits in the Xintiandi entertainment district of downtown Shanghai — Hyatt's bet that its luxury-boutique formula could hold its own in one of the world's most competitive hotel markets. It works. Rooms are loaded with smart tech (iPad room control, adjustable LED mood lighting, heated bathroom floors) and the suite lineup runs from 82 sq m all the way up to a 396 sq m Penthouse Garden with a rooftop hot tub and karaoke room. But the location is the real selling point: the Xintiandi Metro (Line 10) and South Huangpi Road station (Line 1) are a short walk away, and Middle Huaihai Road shopping is practically on the doorstep.
