Request a TreeHouse Suite close to the main building if you want a shorter walk after dinner — the hill path is steeper in icy conditions

Why It Matters

One of the most architecturally distinctive hotels in Scandinavia. The raised cabin design lets you watch the Northern Lights from bed without leaving your duvet. Multiple World Luxury Hotel Awards winner, Green Key certified, and consistently rated among Finland's top hotels.

Arctic TreeHouse Hotel sits right on the Arctic Circle outside Rovaniemi, about 8 km from the city center. Designed in 2016 by Helsinki-based Studio Puisto, the individual wooden cabin suites are elevated on stilts among the pine trees, each built around a floor-to-ceiling panoramic window wall you face from bed. That window is the whole point — Northern Lights September through March, Midnight Sun in June and July, and snow-dusted pines year-round. Rakas Restaurant in the snowflake-shaped main building serves modern Nordic cuisine using local and foraged Arctic ingredients. This is Lapland done seriously well.

Arctic GlassHouse

The two-bedroom cabin option. A genuinely generous space with a lounge area anchored by a real log-burning fireplace, two separate bedrooms each with a high-standard double bed, and your own private sauna. The 22 m² deck is a serious selling point — spectacular open views of the northern sky, good for aurora watching on clear nights. The sofa in the lounge converts to a sofa bed for two. No pets allowed in this category.

Arctic TreeHouse Suite

The entry-level suite and the one that launched the hotel's reputation. Each cabin stands on stilts among the trees, and the entire focus of the room is the panoramic window wall you face from bed. High-quality double bed or two separate beds; 32 of the suites also have a charming nest-like extra bed tucked into a cosy alcove. Seven suites have a kitchenette. Bathroom has underfloor heating and a rain shower. The TV is discreetly hidden behind a curtain — the window is the screen that matters.

ArcticScene Executive Suite

The most expansive category and the one to book if you want the full spa-in-your-room experience. Separate bedroom and living room, with the living area's furniture movable so it doubles as a private dining space. The bedroom has a custom-made 180cm king-size bed. But the real draw is the dedicated wellness area: a scenery sauna and soaking bath with floor-to-ceiling windows looking straight into the forest, using privacy-smart glass technology. Step from the wellness area directly onto a private terrace with its own fireplace. Comes with yoga equipment and a wellness basket per stay.
