Soho
Urban micro-hotel with a strong community-hub energy. Design-forward without being precious. Popular with media, tech, and creative types who want downtown roots over midtown polish.
The $35/night Urban Fee is mandatory but packed with value — use the Citi Bike passes, gym access (Gotham Gym is a legit boxing and fitness gym), and 15% F&B discount every day.
Why It Matters
One of NYC's better-executed micro-hotel concepts. Got into Hudson Square early, before the neighborhood became desirable. The food and beverage program — five distinct venues on-site — punches well above what you'd expect at this price point.
Arlo SoHo sits at the edge of Hudson Square in Lower Manhattan — a stretch of the city that barely had an identity before this hotel helped put it on the map. The rooms are deliberately compact (most standard rooms start around 150 sq ft), but the design is smart: solid walnut furniture, glass-enclosed rain showers, automated shades, and under-bed storage that actually works. What keeps guests coming back is the social infrastructure. There's Foxtail, a tucked-away speakeasy-style bar with weekly jazz. Lindens, a proper farm-to-table restaurant with a raw bar and organic wine list. And ART SoHo, a year-round rooftop with Hudson River and Freedom Tower views that draws locals as much as guests.
