Art Series - The Johnson sits in Spring Hill, just a 15-minute walk from Brisbane's CBD, in what used to be the old Queensland Department of Main Roads building. The hotel is dedicated to Australian abstract artist Michael Johnson, and his ultra-saturated, bold color-field works are everywhere: on the walls, in the art library in your room, and running on a dedicated art channel on your TV. All suites are open-plan and self-contained, ranging from compact 40 sqm studios to a sprawling 300 sqm penthouse. The 50-metre outdoor pool on the fifth-floor terrace is genuinely one of the best hotel pools in Brisbane.

Named directly for the artist himself, it's the most concentrated expression of Johnson's work in the building — and the pool and CBD are both at your feet.
