Arthotel Heidelberg
Clean-lined, contemporary-within-historic boutique. Puristic without being cold. Familial service atmosphere.
Reserve an underground parking space in advance — availability is limited and street parking in the Altstadt is a headache
Why It Matters
The listed historic building combined with a modern wing is architecturally singular in Heidelberg's old town. The building's origins trace to 1200 AD, and it served as an imperial postal relay station from 1723. It's also one of very few old-town hotels with underground parking — a genuine practical advantage in this car-unfriendly neighborhood. Restaurant Romer has been nominated as the Festival Restaurant for the Spring in Heidelberg music festival.
Arthotel Heidelberg occupies a listed 13th-century building right in the thick of Heidelberg's Altstadt — directly opposite St. Peter's Church, steps from the Old Bridge, and a short walk uphill to the castle. The building has been through a lot: relay station for the imperial postal service, American army editorial offices post-WWII, a design furniture store, and finally a hotel since 2006. What you get today is a genuinely good-looking boutique hotel where old stonework and oak parquet meet contemporary lines, without the fussiness that often comes with heritage properties.
