Oxfordshire
Eccentric English countryside meets urban art speakeasy. Bohemian, design-forward, and deliberately irreverent — more colourful mismatched vintage furniture and neon signs than chintz and hunting prints.

Why It Matters
Awarded 1 Michelin Key in 2025. One of the few UK boutique inns where the art direction is genuinely excellent — curated by founders Justin and Charlotte Salisbury — rather than just decorative wallpaper. The Mason Arms is a real village pub, not just a hotel restaurant, which means locals actually eat here.
A 16th-century thatched farmhouse in the Oxfordshire village of South Leigh that's been transformed into a 15-room boutique country inn. On the outside it's all honey-stone walls and pastoral calm; step inside and you get flagstone floors and inglenook fireplaces going head-to-head with House of Hackney wallpapers, neon sculptures by Andy Doig, and Pulp Fiction–inflected art by the Connor Brothers. The Mason Arms pub anchors the ground floor with proper pints, local ales, and a kitchen that punches well above average.
