Why It Matters
The only hotel in Saudi Arabia that simultaneously operates as an art gallery, housing more than 2,000 works by Saudi artists. The Royal Suite occupies half of the 16th floor at 600 sqm. The rooftop pool sits on the 20th floor with panoramic city views. Rooms include handwoven rugs and marble bathrooms throughout.
Assila opened in 2016 on Jeddah's main shopping strip, Tahlia Street, and does something no other hotel in Saudi Arabia does: it functions as a proper art gallery, with over 2,000 works by local Saudi artists covering every corner from the lobby to the guest rooms. The lobby alone sets the tone — bold splashes of orange, teal, and green replace the usual muted luxury palette, vintage Saudi doors form the backdrop behind reception, and black-and-white photographs of Saudi family history line the concierge area. It is part hotel, part cultural institution, and that distinction is earned rather than marketed.
