Auberge du Vieux Port
Historic-romantic boutique with a French inflection. Wrought-iron beds, stone walls, fireplace lounge, goose-down duvets. Feels more like a well-appointed auberge than a conventional hotel.
Book a river-front room for the best fireworks views in June–August (international competition visible from both room windows and the 5th-floor terrace)
Why It Matters
The only hotel directly facing the Old Port waterfront in Old Montreal. Two genuine 19th-century heritage buildings that won the Prix du Jury in the Commerce Design Montreal competition for interior design. Appeared on the Condé Nast Readers' Choice List 2024 and TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Best of the Best 2024. Ranked #2 of 176 hotels in Montreal on TripAdvisor.
Forty-five rooms split across two 19th-century warehouse buildings — the Hector-Lamontagne and Victor-Hudon — right on the waterfront strip of Old Montreal. The bones of this place are genuine: stone and brick walls from 1882, exposed timber beams, original oak and pine floors. It's the only hotel in Old Montreal sitting directly on the St. Lawrence River side of rue de la Commune, which means river-view rooms are the real deal, not a distant sliver. The back of the building opens onto cobblestoned St-Paul Street, the oldest street in the city, lined with restaurants and galleries.
