Mendoza
Spanish colonial architecture, stone walls, whitewashed exteriors, warm earthy interiors. Feels like a refined private estate rather than a hotel. Quiet, very private, genuinely romantic. No shared corridors or lobby crowds — every guest has their own freestanding villa or room.
Book winery visits at least 15 days in advance — some of the best estates require reservations far ahead
Why It Matters
One of Argentina's original luxury wine-country lodges, now elevated by the Awasi model of private guides and fully hosted experiences. Member of Relais & Châteaux. The Fully Hosted rate covers all meals, all drinks (including wines), all excursions, and airport transfers — making it a true all-in experience.
Awasi Mendoza is a 17-villa boutique lodge sitting on 55 acres of working vineyard at the foot of the Andes, about 30 minutes south of Mendoza city. Formerly known as Cavas Wine Lodge, the property was rebranded under the Awasi collection (Relais & Châteaux) and now runs on a fully tailor-made model: every room comes with its own private guide and 4x4 vehicle. Wine is the spine of almost everything here — the cooking, the spa treatments, the excursions — but the Andean backdrop and the sense of genuine privacy push it well beyond a one-note wine hotel.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Full-day excursion to the base of Aconcagua (6,962m), the highest peak in the Americas. Starts at Horcones Lagoon at 2,950m altitude, following the Horcones River Valley with views of the south face and condor sightings possible. Led by a professional guide.
A private Andes reserve offering half-day and full-day hiking routes. Located 1.5 hours from the lodge. Designed for exclusivity — far from the crowds on public trails.
Andes hike departing the lodge at 10am, arriving by 11:30am at Vallecitos (1,066m). Summits range from 3,000–3,500m. Tailored to your fitness level with a professional guide.
1.5 hours from the lodge at a family-run ranch on the Camino de la Carrera. Coffee on arrival, then a horseback ride through rugged Andean trails and untouched native vegetation — a stark contrast to the vineyard surroundings. Ends with a traditional asado and wine with the hosts.
Flat, gentle terrain around the lodge — ideal for less experienced riders. Routes can include visits and lunch at nearby wineries such as Finca Decero, Ojo de Agua, Las Perdices, and Septima.
Explore the rural roads and vineyards around the lodge by bicycle. Flat and gentle terrain — good for casual cyclists. Routes can include nearby winery stops at Decero and Ojo de Agua. Bicycles are complimentary on the B&B rate.
Bikes are transported by vehicle to a scenic unpaved road about an hour from the lodge. Guests choose how much of the flexible 30km route to ride. Can be combined with Uco Valley winery visits, horseback riding, or hiking in the same area.
Transfer by vehicle (40 min) to Lake Potrerillos, then a 12km pedal around the pristine lake. Ends with a picnic prepared by the chef, with views of the Andean cordillera and the shimmering lake.
Hands-on class in the lodge kitchen. Learn empanadas, grilled bread, ojo de bife (ribeye), tomaticán, and grilled fruits — guided by the kitchen team. A great way to take a piece of Argentine cuisine home.
Two nearby options: Club de Campo (18-hole championship course designed by Carlos Thays in 1974, 30 min away) and La Vacherie (9-hole scenic course with Andes views, 20 min away).
Evenings at the lodge are accompanied by live performances — tango or jazz, depending on the night. Turns dinner into an event.
Private guide-led visits to boutique wineries across Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley. Goes beyond standard tastings — meets the winemakers, tours underground cellars, often paired with a full lunch. Notable neighbors include Catena Zapata, Achaval Ferrer, Finca Decero, Ojo de Agua, and Las Perdices. Tailored to your wine knowledge level. Book at least 15 days in advance for specific estates.
An introductory tasting hosted by the lodge's sommelier Federico in the underground cellar. Works through terroir, flavor profiles, and winemaking techniques. Included in the B&B rate as a complimentary activity.
Class II+/III+ rapids on glacial meltwater — moderate difficulty and accessible for most guests. Set against impressive Andean scenery.
Transfer to Club de Windsurf (40 min), then 1.5–3 hours on the lake with surrounding Andean views.
The property's signature seasonal event (March–April). Join the vineyard team at sunset with scissors, aprons, and buckets to hand-pick grapes. As evening falls, live folk music kicks in, wine flows, dancers perform, and guests stomp grapes barefoot. Ends with a dinner among the vines under the Andes.
