Why It Matters
The original 1930s governor's mansion is one of the finest surviving examples of streamline moderne architecture in Vietnam. Named one of the Top 10 Hotels in Southeast Asia by Condé Nast Traveler. This was once the residence of the French Resident Supérieure — built in the 1930s in streamline moderne Art Deco, all horizontal lines and nautical flourishes, looking straight across the Perfume River at the Imperial Citadel. Azerai took it over and added two contemporary wings in 2005, so now 122 rooms spread across a 2.5-hectare garden with a 40-meter saltwater pool. It remains the most historically significant place to stay in Hue, and the service consistently gets singled out by guests as exceptional.
