Brindos, Lac & Château
Hispano-Moorish vintage glamour meets lakeside nature retreat. Think dandy British bar next to Bali-style floating cabins. The aesthetic threads gold as a common thread through ornate interiors, but the overall feel is relaxed, not stuffy. Basque culture is woven in through the room names, menu, and design references to local dance and music traditions.
The floating lodges rock gently and can only be reached by summoning the hotel's electric boat — factor that into late-night plans
Why It Matters
The only hotel in France — possibly Europe — where you choose between sleeping in a lakeside château or a lodge floating on a private lake accessible only by silent electric boat. The château itself has genuine architectural history: Hispano-Moorish design by Biarritz architect William Marcel, a former ballroom that's now the bar, and a restaurant that earned a Michelin star under previous ownership. The spa extends onto the water with treatment cabins among the water lilies.
A 1930s Hispano-Moorish château on one of France's largest private lakes, set in a 14-hectare park just 1 km from Biarritz Airport. The hotel splits its personality cleanly: vintage glamour in the main château (crystal chandeliers, golden-bamboo furnishings, velvet sofas), and something genuinely unusual out on the water — 10 floating lodges reachable only by electric boat. Both experiences are excellent. Neither is quite like anything else on the Basque Coast.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Silent electric wooden boats, crewed by hotel staff, ferry guests between the château shore and the floating lodges at any time of day. The crossing takes about five minutes across the private lake.
The surrounding Basque Country is popular for hiking and cycling. The hotel can assist with bike rental and itinerary suggestions.
A 20-minute walk around the lake under a canopy of trees. Birdsong, herons, and waterside greenery. Guests frequently cite this as a highlight.
Regular live music nights in the original ballroom-turned-bar. Seasonal programme of performances year-round.
Bespoke cocktail-making workshops available as part of packages or on request.
The Scottish-style bar stocks an extensive selection of spirits. Wine tasting sessions can also be arranged on the terrace overlooking the lake.
Non-motorised water activities on the private lake.
The hotel can arrange surf gear rental. Biarritz's Côte des Basques was where European surfing was introduced — there are 11 beaches in Anglet and 6 in Biarritz nearby.
Yoga sessions held on the pontoon platform over the lake. Seasonal offering (May–October) coordinated through the Spa de Brindos.
