C2
Design-forward historic mansion boutique. Minimalist meets 19th-century grandeur. Midcentury icons (Arne Jacobsen Egg chairs, Le Corbusier sofas, Eero Saarinen tables) share space with exposed brick and gilded moldings. Cultural hub: weekly jazz concerts, monthly art exhibitions.

Why It Matters
The name is an abbreviation of the designers' initials (Fatosme + Lefèvre = F + L → C + 2). It's one of very few central Marseille hotels with its own spa and indoor pool. The headline trick: guests get exclusive summer boat access to Île Degaby — a fortified private island in the bay that's been closed to the public for decades and only reopened in 2024.
A 19th-century private mansion in Marseille's 6th arrondissement, converted into a 20-room five-star boutique hotel in 2014. Architects Claire Fatosme and Christian Lefèvre — whose initials give the hotel its name — kept the bones intact: original marble floors, bas-relief sculptures, frescoes, bronze banisters, and a monumental wrought-iron staircase lit by Paolo Rizzatto chandeliers. New volumes are done in concrete, corten steel, and white Corian, so the collision between past and present is deliberate, readable, and genuinely interesting. Only 20 rooms, a FillMed spa with an indoor pool carved between the old stone walls, a stylish bar, and exclusive summer access to a private island in Marseille's bay.

Rotating exhibitions of paintings and photographs are installed throughout the hotel's common areas — staircase, landing, salon. The hotel works with Marseille-based artists and renews the collection regularly. Exhibitions are open to hotel guests and visitors attending bar events.
Every November, C2 participates in Marseille's Jazz sur la Ville festival, hosting performances in the grand salon. Programming varies by year.
Every Wednesday evening, the grand salon hosts live jazz and classical music concerts. The programme changes weekly — recent shows have included jazz manouche quartets, jazz fusion ensembles, and themed evenings. Food is served during the concert. Reserve via the hotel website for packages with the best seats.
July and August only. The hotel charters a private boat from the Old Port to Île Degaby, a fortified island in Marseille Bay that only opened to visitors in May 2024. Once inside the 17th-century ramparts (built on Louis XIV's orders), guests have access to the beach, loungers, refreshments, snorkeling masks and fins, and a sea-access ladder. The island has its own pop-up bar and restaurant. Inaccessible to general public; C2 guests get exclusive daytime access. Extra charge applies.
On the first Sunday of every month, C2 opens a special brunch in the grand salon. Popular with local Marseillais as much as hotel guests. Book via the hotel website.
