Carr Mansion
Historic-luxe with a personal touch. Think antique claw-foot tubs, original fireplace mantles, and hand-carved bed frames — but with Smart TVs and bluetooth speakers. Intimate and house-party-ish. The kind of place where you share breakfast with the other guests.
Weekday rates are meaningfully cheaper — $189 vs $289 per night for the same room
Why It Matters
One MICHELIN Key 2024 recipient. Survived the Great Galveston Storm of 1900. One of the few remaining 19th-century landmarks from Galveston's original building boom. Named to Coastal Living's 'Hotel Crush' list and Texas Monthly's 'Top 10 New & Improved Hotels.' Each of the 8 rooms is named for a real historical figure tied to the property.
Built in 1866 by Lewis W. Carr, this Greek Revival mansion in Galveston's East End has outlasted a Texas governor, a Great Storm, and half a century as a church before landing here — as an adults-only boutique B&B with 8 individually named rooms. Austin-based interior designer Shannon Eddings married antique pieces and modern fixtures, so you get original ceiling medallions alongside contemporary lighting and certified natural luxury mattresses. No pool, no spa, no restaurant. But there's a historic pub, a free hot breakfast on weekends, and an on-site innkeeper named Joellyn who will tell you exactly where to eat.
