Why It Matters
The infinity pool — set at the highest point above Ravello and framed by the Lattari Mountains — is routinely cited as one of Italy's most spectacular. On top of that, the Ristorante Belvedere's panoramic terrace is the kind of dinner setting that ruins all other restaurants. And the complimentary daily boat tour from Amalfi to Positano on the hotel's wooden gozzo 'Ercole' is genuinely rare for a property of this tier.
An 11th-century palace set roughly 350 metres above the Amalfi Coast, the Caruso is one of those places where the setting does the heavy lifting and the hotel still manages to keep up. Perched on the cliff edge above tiered lemon and olive groves, it has 50 rooms and suites, an infinity pool that genuinely looks like it drops into the sea, and a fine-dining terrace regarded as one of the best on the entire coast. Built by a wealthy family who stopped in Ravello while journeying to Constantinople, it retains the bones of a palazzo — frescoed salons, ancient stone vaults, Moorish arches — with the polish of a serious luxury hotel.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Plan a personalised menu over an aperitif in Il Loggiato with the chef, then dine in the Chef's Garden. An intimate outdoor dinner experience away from the main restaurant.
A private outdoor dining experience for two: a 17th-century door from the old Caruso Palace serves as the dining table, set with Emilio Pucci chairs. The chef creates a bespoke menu paired with a bottle of Krug champagne, served in a private spot overlooking the Amalfi Coast. One of the more memorable restaurant experiences in Italy.
A weekly calendar of free activities for guests including pizza and pasta making classes, limoncello tasting sessions and other local culinary experiences. Contact the hotel for the current week's schedule.
A daily trip on the hotel's traditional wooden gozzo 'Ercole' from Amalfi to Positano. In summer months, swimming stops at secret grottos along the way. Completely complimentary for hotel guests and includes round-trip shuttle transfers from the hotel. Reserve your spot at check-in — spaces go quickly.
An exclusive excursion to a protected natural bay accessible to only three boats — and the Caruso's Apreamare gozzo is one of them. A genuinely rare coastal access point that most visitors to the Amalfi Coast simply cannot reach.
Children direct their own holiday movie trailer under the guidance of a professional filmmaker. Planning, acting, shooting — the full process. A good option on a hotter afternoon.
Hands-on pasta making class with Mamma Carmela. Convivial and unpretentious — you'll leave knowing how to make authentic local pasta. Available on request.
A cluster of foodie day trips: a lemon grove near Amalfi, a private visit to the Nettuno laboratory in Cetara to discover how colatura di alici (traditional anchovy sauce) is made, and a visit to San Salvatore farm on the slopes of Vesuvius with olive groves, vineyards and buffalo mozzarella production.
The legendary trail linking Agerola and Nocelle, allegedly used by siren-seeking gods and Emperor Tiberius. Ends with a descent of 1,680 steps into the town below. The hotel arranges guided tours with a picnic of local specialities.
A guided excursion along an ancient pedestrian route restored with the help of Caruso. The Sentiero delle Formichelle was historically walked by women carrying fresh lemons on their heads — connecting Tramonti to Maiori and Minori through lemon groves. A proper local history walk.
Expert-guided tour of Pompeii with an art historian. The hotel adds context by pointing out ancient Roman palace ruins within its own gardens and the Arab-Mediterranean gardens of nearby Villa Rufolo.
