Why It Matters
Entirely independent and locally curated from floor to bathroom soap. The building was constructed in 1869 by Francisco Batlle; the youngest daughter of the Bonay family (who gave the hotel its name) married a friend of Gaudí. Interior design was executed by Brooklyn-based Studio Tack using stucco, clay, and marble. Every vendor — from the coffee roaster (Nomad) to the blankets (Teixidors) to the chandeliers (Santa & Cole) — is local or carefully chosen. The rooftop Termas Bonay spa, designed by Andreu Carulla and landscape artist Fernando Martos, is a genuinely distinctive addition in a city not short of hotels.
Casa Bonay is a 67-room independent boutique hotel in Barcelona's Dreta de l'Eixample, occupying a painstakingly restored 1869 neoclassical mansion. Founded by local entrepreneur Inés Miró-Sans and open since 2016, it runs as much as a neighborhood cultural hub as a hotel — with a celebrated pan-Mediterranean restaurant, a rooftop spa inspired by Nordic sauna culture, a cocktail bar, a specialty coffee counter, a seasonal rooftop grill, and a packed calendar of events. The building design, furniture, plants, ceramics, and even bathroom soap involve a roster of local Barcelona makers and designers, which gives the place a coherent identity you rarely find at an independently run city hotel.

Also includes access to Termas Bonay wellness — the only lower-category rooms that do. Good choice for families or anyone who finds smaller European hotel rooms claustrophobic.

Five exclusive ground-floor rooms each with a private terrace with outdoor shower, hammock, and direct sunlight — a genuine rarity in central Barcelona. High ceilings and original restored mosaic floors. Smaller than the Courtyard Large (226 vs 365 sqft) but the private outdoor space more than compensates. All include Termas Bonay spa access and MUBI streaming.

Courtyard-facing rooms on the quieter side of the building. A solid mid-level option with the same design DNA as the rest of the hotel — original floors, Klipsch speaker, local minibar.
Courtyard Mini with Terrace
Located on the top floor with private terraces offering views over the Barcelona courtyard and rooftops. The terraces are small but private. Terracotta tile floors on this level. Good natural light, though the rooms themselves are compact.
Gran Via Large
Spacious Gran Via-facing rooms with tall ceilings and original mosaic floors (terracotta on top floors). All include a sofa bed to accommodate a third person — effectively functioning as family rooms. Some have balconies. A good option for pairs who want room to stretch out, or a family of three.

Street-facing rooms looking onto the Gran Via. You get real Barcelona street life below — and corresponding noise. Preserved tall ceilings and original mosaic floors. Good option for those who want the urban energy.
Passage Medium
Facing the interior gallery of the building, these are among the quietest rooms in the hotel. A good choice if you're a light sleeper who doesn't need a city view. Same quality finishes as the other room categories — original hydraulic tile floors, Malin+Goetz, Klipsch speaker, local minibar.
Passage Mini
The smallest category in the house and designed with solo travelers in mind. These face the building's internal passage gallery. At 172 sqft, storage is genuinely limited — pack light. But what's there is well-chosen: Malin+Goetz toiletries, a Klipsch speaker, local minibar snacks, and blankets from Teixidors. No breakfast in room; room service from Libertine runs 12pm–midnight.
