Why It Matters
One of the original boutique hotels on Holbox before the island blew up. Still family-owned and community-rooted, with Mandarina beach club as the best lunch spot on the island for non-guests too. The whale shark season (June–September) makes this a legitimately rare wildlife encounter from the hotel's front door.
Casa Las Tortugas opened in December 2003, named after the thirteen wild turtles that came ashore the night before launch — and that founding spirit still runs through the whole place. It's adults-only (12+), barefoot in policy and soul, with 30 boho-chic rooms ranging from compact 20m² ground-floor standards up to 60m² rooftop suites with private pools. The hotel sits right on the best sandbar on Holbox's main beach, with the Gulf of Mexico stretching out in front and no cars in sight — this is an island with no paved roads.
