Casa Monti Roma
Joyfully maximalist, bohemian, artist's residence energy. Think layered patterns, rich textures, bespoke art commissions and a resident artist who transforms a suite into a living canvas each summer. Locals come here to drink and eat, which gives the place a Roman social energy rather than tourist-hotel stiffness.
Breakfast on the patio terrace is genuinely excellent — get down early for a table in the sun
Why It Matters
The only five-star hotel in the Monti neighborhood. Home to Rome's sole Susanne Kaufmann spa. Interiors by Laura Gonzalez inspired by the Italian concept of sprezzatura. Rooftop bar with panoramic city views. A resident artist program sees a suite reimagined as a living artwork each spring and summer.
Casa Monti is a 36-room (26 rooms, 10 suites) five-star boutique hotel set in a 17th-century palazzo turned police station in Rome's Monti district, opened summer 2024. The only five-star property in Monti, it's the passion project of the Kampf family and their Leitmotiv group — the same people behind La Fantaisie in Paris. Paris-based designer Laura Gonzalez covered every surface in layered prints, terracotta hues, handmade lino prints, mosaic details and artisanal ceramics. The result is maximalist but grounded — sprezzatura made physical.
