Vail
High-desert western Americana glamping. Rustic-luxe with genuine ranch soul — not a theme park version of cowboy life. The aesthetic leans into Western heritage: weathered wood, Pendleton blankets, locally sourced antiques, and open-flame cooking from the chef.
Book a Summit Tent over a Journey Tent if budget allows — the private en-suite bathroom makes a meaningful difference in comfort
Why It Matters
One of the original luxury glamping operations in Colorado, now in its eighth-plus season. Michelin Guide recognized. Sits on a genuine working horse ranch rather than a manicured resort plot — the horses, the sage, and the unobstructed mountain views are real. The chef-driven, open-flame farm-to-table dinners under the stars are genuinely impressive for a tented property.
Collective Vail sits on 1,000 acres of working ranchland at 4 Eagle Ranch in Wolcott, Colorado — about 20 miles west of Vail proper, with zero road noise and zero light pollution. The setting is high desert, not the evergreen forests most people picture for Colorado: sage-covered hills, vast panoramic skies, and the snowcapped Sawatch Range as a backdrop until August. Horses graze the pasture just outside the tents every morning and evening. It's luxury glamping done with genuine western character — antler chandeliers, one-of-a-kind antiques, 1,500-thread-count sheets, and wood-burning stoves in structures that happen to be oversized canvas tents or converted shipping containers.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A revival of a 400-year-old colonial tradition (also known as Bier Stacheln). A hot fire poker is plunged into a malt-forward beer — ideally something like Denver Beer Co.'s Graham Cracker Porter — to caramelize residual sugars and add a toasty, marshmallow-like character. Done around the campfire alongside s'mores. Collective Vail introduced this as a signature offering.
One of the signature low-key activities. Guests enjoy a bottle of prosecco or wine while branding their own custom cutting board over the campfire — a genuinely fun souvenir activity that leans into the ranch heritage without being cheesy.
Every evening the retreat provides a gourmet s'mores cart and campfire. Complimentary for all guests — a classic end to dinner at Three Peaks Lodge.
Complimentary evening shuttles to Beaver Creek or Vail village for guests who want to explore the resort town's dining and nightlife scene and return to the ranch afterward.
Guided fly fishing on the Eagle River for local brown trout. The Eagle River runs through the valley and is one of Colorado's well-regarded fishing waterways. All necessary equipment is provided.
Trails across 4 Eagle Ranch and connecting routes toward Vail. Good for exploring the ranch's high desert terrain; the landscape is open and panoramic rather than dense forest.
Whitewater rafting on the Eagle River, bookable through the retreat. The Eagle River offers accessible whitewater for a range of skill levels.
The stables at 4 Eagle Ranch are open 7 days a week and offer 1-hour and 2-hour guided trail rides. Routes take in views of the Sawatch Range, Castle Peak, and Red and White Mountain. One of the most authentic experiences at the property — this is a working horse ranch, not a tourist stable.
Guided Jeep and ATV tours across the ranch's 1,000 acres. A good way to cover terrain and reach viewpoints that would otherwise require a long hike.
Complimentary morning yoga ritual or guided hike available daily. The Wellness Trail is a self-guided walking route across the ranch property with designated scenic stops. Yoga is offered on the ranch grounds with mountain views.
Wine flights and tastings available alongside chef's dinners. The on-ranch winery (Vines at Vail Winery) provides daily wine for the complimentary Sage Social Hour and formal tastings can be arranged separately.
