Why It Matters
Founded by David Coulthard as a deliberate alternative to Monaco's palace hotels. Still the go-to for F1 teams during Grand Prix week — the hotel's guest list over the years reads like a motorsport hall of fame: Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton, Ricciardo. The only mid-market boutique in Monaco with a sea-view pool and its own Riva motorboat for guest charters.
Columbus opened in 2001 when Formula 1 driver David Coulthard took a standard 3-star hotel in Monaco's Fontvieille district and turned it into something deliberately low-key for its postcode. Fully renovated in 2018, it now runs as 181 rooms and suites, most with terraces looking out over the Princess Grace Rose Garden or the Mediterranean. It joined Hilton's Curio Collection in December 2023 and is owned by the French family group Bertout.
