Why It Matters
The hotel is literally named after and positioned next to the architect who built the opera house next door. That story threads through every design choice. Add an exclusively Chilean wine list in the Copper Room, a rooftop bar on the 10th floor with Andes views, and SLH membership for recognition perks — it's the best address in downtown Santiago for culture-first travelers.
Debaines opened in December 2024 right next door to the Teatro Municipal — Santiago's opera house — and the connection is literal: the hotel is named for Claude François Brunet-Debaines, the French architect who designed the theatre in the 19th century and went on to shape much of historic downtown Santiago. Fifty rooms across ten floors, all oak floors, Toto spa bidets, and handcrafted furniture made by Chilean artisans. It's a genuinely thoughtful boutique property run by two hoteliers, Fernando Gruenberg Stern and Christian Fiederer, who trained across Hilton, Shangri-La, Le Méridien and Radisson before going independent.
