Why It Matters
A genuine adaptive reuse landmark: the iron foundry bones are preserved and celebrated throughout, not just referenced. Jordan Mozer's room designs include actual heated waterbeds (AQUA category) and double bathtubs for two. The east Restaurant is a genuine Hamburg nightlife institution, not just a hotel dining room — locals book tables here independently, and DJs play Wed–Sat nights.
A converted 19th-century iron foundry turned 4-star design hotel in Hamburg's legendary St. Pauli district. Chicago architect Jordan Mozer shaped the original bones — organic forms, curved columns, unplastered red brick — and the hotel opened in 2004 as both a place to sleep and one of Hamburg's most talked-about nightlife destinations. The east Sporting Club and east Body & Soul Spa (currently under renovation, reopening September 2026) round out the offer, but the restaurant and bar are the real draw for guests and locals alike.

The Aqua rooms step up to 40–50m² and come with one of east's signature features: a heated king-size waterbed. Add a double bathtub, a separate toilet, a lounge area with Nespresso machine, and you have one of the more unusual room configurations in Hamburg. Jordan Mozer design throughout.

The smallest rooms in the hotel at 25m², but what they lack in size they make up for in character. Bare steel beams and floor-to-ceiling windows give a clear industrial edge — these are on upper floors of the east. Giorgio Gullotta's design keeps the palette soft and the furniture considered, so the industrial bones don't feel cold.

The entry-level Jordan Mozer-designed rooms run 30–35m². The open-plan natural stone bathroom is the standout — not the cramped afterthought you'd get at this size elsewhere. A Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker comes standard, and the rain shower is solid. Good desk setup for short work stays.

At 60m², these junior suites are where the Jordan Mozer design really has room to breathe. Organic furniture shapes, soothing colors, a whirlpool bathtub, open natural stone bathroom, and a proper lounge area. Nespresso machine included. A considerable step up in comfort from the standard categories.

Same footprint as the EAST ROOM but the bathroom gets a large double bathtub — the signature upgrade for couples. Around 30m², so the bathtub is genuinely the point. Natural stone finish throughout. High-quality Molton Brown toiletries included.

Designed by Giorgio Gullotta (not Mozer), these rooms have a distinct modern-industrial feel: oak parquet floors, clean contemporary furniture, Nespresso machine, and a spacious rain forest shower in natural stone. Added later in the hotel's 2020 expansion. A different aesthetic from the Mozer rooms — calmer, more minimal.

Seats at the sushi counter in the east Restaurant allow guests to watch sushi masters prepare rolls, sashimi, and full sushi boats in real time.
