El Dorado Hotel
Contemporary boutique with restrained California casual aesthetic — warm tones, organic materials, no fussy wine country kitsch. Farm-driven dining culture runs through everything.
Plaza Deluxe King rooms have the largest terraces — seating for four — and are the best value upgrade if you want outdoor space
Why It Matters
One of the only hotels sitting directly on Sonoma Plaza, housed in a genuine 1843 adobe building with serious local history. El Dorado Kitchen has become a Sonoma dining institution in its own right, open to the public and led by Chef Armando Navarro with a hyper-local, farm-driven approach.
This 27-room boutique hotel occupies the landmark Salvador Vallejo adobe on the corner of 1st and Spain — right on historic Sonoma Plaza. The building dates to 1843, but the interior is sharp and contemporary: warm colors, organic materials, Illy espresso machines, and Tivoli Bluetooth speakers in every room. Rooms run 200–250 sq ft, so don't come expecting sprawling suites. But what you get instead is instant access to Sonoma on foot, award-winning on-site dining at El Dorado Kitchen, and a solar-heated saltwater pool in the courtyard. It's the anti-resort wine country hotel — and for a lot of guests, that's exactly the point.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A guided morning at the Sonoma Farmers Market with Executive Chef Armando Navarro, with stops at Vella Cheese Company and the Farmers Patch to hand-select seasonal produce and artisanal cheeses. Afternoon wine tasting at Three Sticks Wines. That evening, Chef Armando cooks an intimate six-course tasting menu built around the ingredients you chose earlier in the day. Available for 1–8 guests, and can be booked as a standalone dining event or combined with a hotel stay package.
First-come, first-served access to signature cruiser bikes from the front desk. Good for a lap around the Plaza, a ride to a nearby tasting room, or a proper pedal out into the valley.
Monday through Friday, 3pm to 5pm — a curated selection of low-ABV spritzes and light bites at El Dorado Kitchen. A good way to decompress after a day of tasting rooms before committing to dinner.
A packaged picnic experience: curated two-course lunch from EDK Cantina, a signature throw blanket, a branded tote bag, and a day pass to Jack London State Park (valid 9am–5pm). Bookable as an add-on to a hotel stay. Valid for stays from May 15 onward.
Private meeting and event space including outdoor courtyards and the Fireplace Lounge. Customizable food and beverage menus available through El Dorado Kitchen. Good for small corporate retreats, team dinners, or intimate private celebrations.
Solar-heated saltwater pool lined with loungers in the interior courtyard. EDK Cantina's poolside menu means you can eat tacos and drink mezcal without ever leaving a lounge chair. Pool is seasonal — closed November through April.
