The vibe is genuinely laid-back — locals drink at the bar, free live music plays on the lawn, and the Swim Club is open to the neighborhood. It feels like a community hangout that happens to have guest rooms.

Why It Matters
A Michelin Guide-listed property that earns its stripes by being just as popular with Santa Fe locals as with out-of-towners. La Reina is a legitimate destination bar. The property has been on the Condé Nast Traveler radar and is one of the more characterful places to stay in a city full of adobe hotels.
El Rey Court is a 1936 adobe motor court on old Route 66 (Cerrillos Road) that's been fully reimagined into an 86-room boutique hotel spread across five acres of old-growth gardens. The original Northern New Mexico architecture is intact — whitewashed stucco, exposed ponderosa pine beams, hand-painted tile — and the 2018 renovation layered in contemporary Southwestern art, midcentury-inspired furniture, and a proper mezcal bar. No two rooms are alike, which is either charming or maddening depending on your luck with the draw.

Essentially a small house within the hotel. Two separate queen-bedded rooms, a full kitchen with dining table that seats up to 6, a sitting area with fireplace, and a private patio. There are two adjacent casitas. Perfect for groups or families who want privacy and space without a separate rental.

Courtyard King
Located in El Rey's peaceful Spanish Courtyard, this room adds a gas fireplace to the king-bed setup. The courtyard setting gives it a quieter, more secluded feel than the road-facing rooms.

Double Queen Room
Two queen beds in one room — good for families or groups of friends who want to share a space without going for a full casita. Same distinct design character as all other rooms at El Rey.
Two QueensGallery King
A king room with a kitchenette — built for longer stays. Good if you want to self-cater some meals without going full casita. The 'gallery' name hints at a more art-forward room design.
KingKing Room
King-bed rooms spread throughout the property with a writing desk and additional seating. Same uniquely-designed ethos as the Queens — expect original artwork, Southwest details, and a bit more floor space.
KingKiva King
The flagship room type: a traditional kiva fireplace, private patio, king bed, and writing desk. The kiva fireplace is quintessential New Mexico — a rounded corner adobe firebox that radiates warmth. Best room category for a classic Santa Fe experience.
KingPatio King
A king room with its own private patio — step outside and soak in the Santa Fe sun and garden atmosphere. Also includes a writing desk. A nice step up from the standard rooms if outdoor space matters.
KingQueen Room
Standard rooms scattered across the five-acre campus. Each one is uniquely furnished with original art, rich Southwest textiles, and patterned tile or wood floors. Some have retro bathroom fixtures and skylights from the motel's original era. Cozy but not large — classic motor court footprint.

Free live music at La Reina bar or on the outdoor lawn every Wednesday and Sunday evening. Genres range from blues and alternative folk to Southwest country. Open to both hotel guests and Santa Fe locals — no tickets required.

A weekly night for queer-identifying people and allies at La Reina bar. A portion of drink sales goes to the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico.
Seasonally heated outdoor pool open June 1 through mid-October, 10am–8pm daily. Complimentary for hotel guests. Locals can purchase day passes or seasonal memberships ($750/season). A Swim Club pop-up bar runs Thursday–Monday. Classic retro lounge chairs, cute murals, adjacent hot tub and fireplace.
El Rey Court hosts intimate weddings and elopements, plus meetings and social events. Multiple indoor and outdoor spaces available. Dog-friendly weddings are explicitly welcomed.
Made-to-order wood-fired pizzas on the outdoor lawn most Sundays 5–8pm, May through October. Runs alongside a satellite bar.
