Why It Matters

One of Canada's most iconic hotels, operating since 1888 and sitting entirely within Banff National Park. The 1928 castle structure is a designated heritage property. Generations of guests — including royals and heads of state — have stayed here. The golf course consistently ranks in Canada's top ten. The 40,000-square-foot Fairmont Spa is one of the largest hotel spas in the country.

The Fairmont Banff Springs has been a landmark since 1888 — a Scottish Baronial castle plunked improbably into the Canadian Rockies, rebuilt larger and grander after a fire in 1926 and reopened in 1928 in its current form. And it delivers. Seven hundred and twenty-four rooms, 12 restaurants and bars, a 40,000-square-foot spa, 27 holes of championship golf, an outdoor ice rink in winter, and easy walking distance to Bow Falls. It is genuinely vast and genuinely historic.
