Why It Matters
First Fasano outside Brazil. Isay Weinfeld's architecture is the real thing — bungalows scattered like rocks across the terrain, a pool carved directly into a hillside boulder face. The property has the only 18-hole championship golf course in Uruguay, polo fields designed by Nacho Figueras, and a Fasano restaurant group operation with a century of Italian culinary heritage behind it.
A collection of low stone bungalows and villas spread across 490 hectares along the Maldonado River, designed by award-winning architect Isay Weinfeld to blend into the rocky, spare Uruguayan countryside. It opened in 2010 as the first Fasano outside Brazil and expanded with the cantilevered glass-and-wood Locanda building in 2016. The address says Punta del Este but the feel is pure countryside — sheep graze, birds are deafening at dawn, and the nearest beach is a 15-minute drive.
