Palace Hotel
Art Deco grandeur fused with Bahian soul. Think cream-and-black mosaic floors, Chesterfield sofas, Nádia Taquary sculptures made of shells and búzios, and photographs by local lensman Akira Cravo covering the corridors. The ballroom — the Dona Flor — was originally a casino and still drips with mirrored columns and gilded glamour. But none of it feels like a museum. The rooftop keeps things lively.

Why It Matters
The first luxury hotel in Bahia, still the best address in Salvador's Historic Center. Its facade is protected by IPHAN (Brazil's national heritage authority). A member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts L.V.X. collection and Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2023. The rooftop pool and Fera Lounge have become a genuine local landmark — not just a hotel amenity.
Salvador's original luxury hotel — built in 1934 on Rua Chile, Brazil's very first street — the Fera Palace opened as Bahia's first grand hotel and hosted everyone from Carmen Miranda to Pablo Neruda to Orson Welles. When the city's historic center fell into decay in the 1980s, it went with it. Then in 2012, local entrepreneur Antonio Mazzafera bought the wreck and handed it to Danish architect Adam Kurdahl, who spent years restoring 640 original wooden windows, 230 Art Deco ornaments, and thousands of square meters of original parquet floors before reopening it in 2017 as the Fera Palace Hotel. Today it's 81 rooms spread across a landmarked Art Deco building with a copper dome, a rooftop infinity pool staring down at the Bay of All Saints, and one of the city's most celebrated restaurants.
