Flat Iron Hotel
Appalachian Deco — swanky 1920s office building energy meets Blue Ridge mountain warmth. History-forward but not stuffy. The lobby has a red piano and a two-story hand-painted mural of Appalachian wildlife. The basement has a velvet-and-marble speakeasy. It's a lot of personality in one building.
Walk in to Luminosa right at opening (dinner service start) and ask for bar seating — often available without a reservation when booked tables are hard to come by
Why It Matters
Holds Asheville's most recognizable building at its most iconic intersection. Its on-site restaurant, Luminosa, has earned both a Michelin Green Star and Bib Gourmand — a rare double — making the hotel one of the few in the South where the restaurant itself is a major destination. Named #1 Best New Hotel in the South by Southern Living and featured in Condé Nast Traveler's Best New Hotels in the World 2025. The hand-operated 1926 elevator still runs daily 9am-5pm, staffed by an attendant.
One of Asheville's first skyscrapers — a 1926 Beaux Arts flatiron that spent its first century housing detectives, tailors, radio stations, and dentists — opened as a 71-room boutique hotel in May 2024 after a meticulous adaptive reuse by The Indigo Road Hospitality Group. The Appalachian Deco aesthetic hits the right balance: Art Deco bones (terrazzo floors, marble lobby, transom windows over every guest door) dressed up with warm Appalachian colors, brass fixtures, and Anni Albers-inspired carpets. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it shows.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Each guest floor has a dedicated beverage and treat station stocked with complimentary coffee, tea, still and sparkling water, and other rotating goodies. Also includes jars of staff-curated activity recommendations for Asheville.
The hotel offers full concierge services, including pre-arrival help building itineraries for the Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway hikes, brewery tours, and the broader downtown arts scene.
A hotel-spanning exhibit of hand-painted window signage and biographical plaques honoring former tenants of the building from its first century as an office: detectives, doctors, tailors, the Asheville Junior League, and notably Jimmie Rodgers (known as 'The Father of Country Music'). Corridors serve as a living museum.
The original hand-cranked elevator from 1926, lovingly restored and operated by a staff attendant who brings it to each floor manually. A genuine piece of Asheville history still in daily service. Available 9am–5pm; a modern elevator handles the rest of the day.
A light-filled lounge on the upper floors available to guests for work, relaxation, or private dining. Also available for group event rental. Equipped with co-working space and podcast recording capabilities.
Each room comes with two souvenir postcards. Write one, address it, and drop it down the original Art Deco mail chute in the hallway for complimentary delivery. A surprisingly fun detail that guests consistently mention.
