Gresham Palace Budapest
Grand Art Nouveau palace hotel. Opulent without being stuffy — the lobby is genuinely jaw-dropping, but the staff keeps things warm rather than starched. Historic grandeur meets polished luxury.
Pay the upgrade to a Danube River-View room — seeing the lit Chain Bridge from your bed at night is genuinely worth it
Why It Matters
The building itself is arguably Budapest's finest Art Nouveau structure, and Four Seasons' 2004 restoration turned it into the city's top hotel address. KOLLÁZS is Michelin-recommended, MÚZSA holds one of the world's largest vintage Tokaji Aszú collections, and the Chain Bridge is literally outside the front door.
The Gresham Palace opened in 1906 for a British insurance company — and the building has been turning heads ever since. Four Seasons took over in 2004, restoring over two million mosaic tiles, the iconic peacock wrought-iron gates, and original stained glass across the entire structure. The result is Hungary's only Forbes Five-Star hotel, sitting right at the foot of the Chain Bridge with Buda Castle directly across the Danube.
