Golden Rock Inn Nevis
Artsy, low-tech, plantation-era seclusion. Think living gallery meets Caribbean jungle hideaway. Colorful, handmade, and deliberately analog.
The hotel can arrange a private water taxi from St. Kitts for ~$80 flat (up to 4 people) — worth it over the ferry for the 30-minute direct crossing
Why It Matters
One of the Caribbean's most distinctive boutique stays — created by celebrated New York painters Helen and Brice Marden as an artist's retreat, with gardens designed by Raymond Jungles and the restaurant space by Aman architect Ed Tuttle. The Sugar Mill Suite, set inside a genuine 19th-century cut-stone conical mill, is a one-of-a-kind accommodation. Closed mid-August through early October annually.
A former sugar plantation dating back to 1801, Golden Rock Inn sits 1,000 feet up on the slopes of Nevis Peak across 100 wild acres. There are just 11 rooms scattered through brightly painted stone cottages and a converted 19th-century sugar mill, all designed by NY artists Helen and Brice Marden alongside Miami landscape architect Raymond Jungles. No TVs in most rooms, no A/C, no phones — but there are green vervet monkeys in the mango trees, tree frogs calling at night, and a spring-fed pool surrounded by bougainvillea.

Well-marked hiking trails snake through the 100-acre property.
