Gorgeous George occupies two beautifully restored heritage buildings — a stucco-covered Art Deco edifice and an older Edwardian structure — right on St George's Mall in Cape Town's Central Business District. It's Cape Town's first Design Hotels™ member, and that pedigree shows: architect firm Urbane Citizen Architecture preserved the grand cornices, oak floors and arched windows while threading in sculptural concrete beams and raw steel. Interior designer Tristan du Plessis layered in South African art and furniture throughout, from Gregor Jenkin's hand-turned stainless steel basin legs to wall paintings by David Brits. The result is a 33-room hotel that genuinely feels like it belongs to its city.

A fully equipped three-bedroom penthouse on the 9th floor, branded separately as '9th on George.' Two en-suite bathrooms, a freestanding bath, two private balconies, and a modern kitchen. Ideal for longer stays or groups. Access is by elevator to the 7th floor, then 40 stairs up to the 9th. Bookings are by request via email to reservations@gorgeousgeorge.co.za.

A real step up. 42m² with a king extra-length bed, plus a genuinely separate lounge kitted with a 55-inch Smart TV (the bedroom gets a 43-inch). Same signature walk-in rain shower, Gregor Jenkin basin, penny tile bathroom. The separate lounge means you can actually have some space in the room. Good for couples who like their own corners.
