by Hilton Providence
Historic collegiate boutique hotel — Art Deco bones with playful, campus-inspired interiors. Think less stuffy Ivy League club, more knowing post-grad humor. The original ornate lobby ceiling, crystal chandelier, and glass-and-brass elevator are intact; rooms bring in bold colors, bookshelves, and local pop-culture references.
The destination charge ($10 daily F&B credit + bike rentals + premium WiFi) effectively offsets a morning coffee at Poindexter — use it.
Why It Matters
It's the oldest currently operating hotel in Providence and the building is the tenth-tallest in the city. Graduate Providence is also the only Graduate property to sit within reach of five separate universities at once, and it houses the first-ever Reiners restaurant and bar concept. The lobby and ballrooms retain original 1922 grandeur that no renovation has touched.
The Graduate Providence is a 1922 landmark downtown, formerly the Providence Biltmore, designed by Warren & Wetmore — the same New York firm behind Grand Central Station. It sits within walking distance of five universities, including Brown and RISD, and the décor leans into that: colorful patterns, plaid and tweed, Malin+Goetz bath products, and cheeky nods to Rhode Island's famous Farrelly brothers. At 18 floors and 294 rooms, it's one of the city's most recognizable buildings.
