Why It Matters
The only 5-star hotel in Dijon. A classified Historic Monument with a documented history going back to the 15th century, operating continuously as a hotel since at least the 1790s and overhauled into its current neo-classical form in the 19th century. The spa under original stone vault cellars and the restaurant with its antique glass wall are genuinely distinctive architectural features.
Grand Hôtel La Cloche is Dijon's only 5-star hotel — and from the outside, it's a genuinely spectacular Belle Époque edifice dating to the 1880s, classified as a Historic Monument and planted squarely on Place Darcy at the gateway to the medieval old town. But step inside and the interiors surprise: hints of Art Deco and high Modernism, walnut wood paneling against granite, artworks drawn from the Dijon Museum of Fine Arts collection, and a vaulted stone spa that the building's old wine cellars never expected to become.
