Hotel Albergo Villa Marta
Restored Tuscan manor house. Antique furniture, terracotta floors, exposed beams, frescoed ceilings. Warm and traditional, not flashy. Feels like staying with an aristocratic Luccan family rather than checking into a hotel.
Book the Deluxe room with the frescoed ceiling — one of two Deluxe rooms, it has original painted birds and masks across the ceiling and the best view on the property
Why It Matters
Listed on Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. The Chapel Suite — a fully restored 1800s private chapel with original frescoes, a gilded baroque bathtub, Carrara marble floors and private access to a 400-tree olive grove — is one of the most genuinely unusual rooms in Tuscany. The Deluxe rooms on the upper floors have 180-degree panoramic countryside views that justify the upgrade.
A 19th-century hunting lodge turned 4-star country hotel, sitting just 5km south of Lucca's walled city in the rolling Tuscan countryside between Lucca and Pisa. The property — main villa, an annex, a converted chapel suite, and a 6,000 sqm park — is run with the kind of personal attention you get when owners actually care. There are now 18 rooms, an on-site restaurant open to the public, a crystal-clear outdoor pool with views over olive groves, and a small neoclassical chapel-turned-suite that is genuinely one-of-a-kind.
