Hotel AtypiQ opened in June 2022 with a simple premise: squeeze every drop of usefulness out of a small room in one of the best locations in Old Quebec. The signature move is a queen murphy bed that rises all the way to the ceiling at the push of a button, turning the room from a sleeping space into a proper day room with a fold-out table. There is no restaurant, no gym, no spa — but there is a 24-hour communal kitchen stocked with breakfast ingredients, a social courtyard with hammocks and fire pits, and a rooftop terrace with sightlines straight to Château Frontenac. Part hostel spirit, part private hotel room.

The whole room pivots between two modes. In night mode, the queen bed descends from the ceiling with one finger and fills most of the floor space. In day mode, it goes back up and a fold-out table takes over. It is genuinely compact — one guest review pegged it at around 100 sq ft — but everything you need is there: mini-fridge, HD TV with Chromecast, individual air conditioning, and a private bathroom with a shower featuring original artwork by a Quebec City artist. The sink sits in the main room above the mini-fridge rather than inside the bathroom. Bring a small bag if possible.
