Hotel Azul de Oaxaca
Contemporary Mexican art-hotel. Quiet, design-forward, and culturally rooted. The vibe is serious about aesthetics — think gallery-white walls, artist-commissioned murals, and mosaic bathrooms — but the staff keeps it warm and unpretentious.
Book a named artist suite over a standard room — they're much larger (51–54 m² vs. 25 m²) and the art alone is worth the upgrade
Why It Matters
The only hotel in Oaxaca where every suite is a commissioned artwork by a major local artist. Interior design by Héctor Esrawe, bathroom tile by Francisco Toledo, and architecture by Tres Manos Arquitectura. Member of Mexico's Certified Treasures of Mexico SECTUR program.
Hotel Azul de Oaxaca is a 21-room boutique hotel in Oaxaca's historic center that doubles as a functioning art gallery. Each of the five suites was designed in full by a different celebrated Oaxacan artist — Francisco Toledo, Rubén Leyva, Luis Zárate, José Villalobos, and Jorge Dubón — while the interior architecture was handled by Héctor Esrawe, one of Mexico's leading designers. The result is a property that feels genuinely embedded in the city's contemporary design scene, not just decorated to look the part.
