Hotel das Cataratas
Portuguese colonial hacienda meets Brazilian rainforest luxury. Warm, slightly old-world elegance — dark wood, crisp Egyptian cotton, candle chandeliers — without being stiff or formal. The vibe is more explorer's retreat than stuffy grand hotel.

Why It Matters
It is the only hotel within Iguassu National Park on the Brazilian side (the park only permits two hotels near the falls total — the other is a Sheraton on the Argentine side). Staying here means exclusive before-and-after-hours access to the falls — up to six extra hours of private viewing time that no day-tripper can get. That access alone justifies the price for most guests.
The only hotel inside Brazil's Iguassu National Park, Hotel das Cataratas sits steps from 275 thundering waterfalls in a pastel-pink Portuguese colonial building originally constructed in 1958. Belmond acquired and fully restored it, adding polished hardwood floors, marble bathrooms, hand-painted azulejo tiles, and artworks by local Brazilian artists. The location is the entire point: guests walk to the falls in under two minutes, and — crucially — get exclusive access before 9am and after 5pm, when the park is closed to everyone else.

Cycling through the park trails as an alternative way to explore the national park.
Led by resident cachaça sommelier Nacir Zandoná, who manages one of the largest cachaça collections in Brazil. Three tasting tiers: Woods of Brazil (R$195/person), Cachaça Revolution (R$330/person), and Crème de la Crème premium limited editions (R$550/person). Available daily 4pm-6pm, over 18s only.
A guided tasting of four Paraná state wines from three different local wineries, led by regional wine experts. Paraná produces small but increasingly recognized yields. R$350 per person, minimum 2 guests, available daily 4pm-6pm, over 18s only.
Hotel guests get private access to Iguassu Falls before the park opens at 9am and after it closes at 5pm — up to six extra hours daily compared to day visitors. Walking the trails to the falls at dawn or at dusk, with virtually nobody around, is the headline experience that justifies staying here.
A guided dawn walk through the rainforest at first light, in partnership with Leica Sport Optics. Guests are provided Leica Trinovid 8x42 HD binoculars to spot rare flora and fauna. The rising sun creates rainbow-hued light through the falls mist. Requires 24-hour advance booking.
The renowned Parque das Aves (Bird Park) is adjacent to the hotel grounds. Home to over 150 species of birds in walk-through aviaries. Included in the Family Time package (2 tickets per room).
A nocturnal guided tour timed to full moon nights to witness the lunar rainbow — a moonbow caused by moonlight in the falls spray. A genuinely rare natural phenomenon. Monthly occurrence — worth planning your trip dates around.
A classic Iguassu adventure: jeep ride through the rainforest canopy followed by a speedboat ride on the river to get up-close views of the Lower Falls, the Three Musketeers, and Devil's Throat. You will get soaked — bring a dry bag. Roughly two hours total.
A curated sunset picnic spread — smoked salmon, charcuterie, cheeses, truffled honey, rustic bread, cake, and Clericot. With sparkling wine R$520/person; with Moët & Chandon R$975/person. Minimum 2 guests. Gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan options available on request.
An evening stargazing experience with expert astronomer Janer Vilaça, exploring the night sky through the lens of Guarani indigenous culture, for whom the sky holds deep spiritual significance. Subject to weather conditions.
Access to the hotel's colonial tower — the highest point in the entire national park — for sunset with a bottle of Moët & Chandon and canapés by the chef. R$1,890 per couple plus 10% service charge. Subject to weather conditions.
Cocktails and canapés on the hotel lawn facing the falls at sunset. Choose a bottle of Moët & Chandon (R$1,144/couple) or Hotel das Cataratas sparkling wine (R$510/couple). Available 6pm-7pm in summer, 5pm-6pm in winter.
Tennis court surrounded by jungle canopy, open daily 8am-10pm.
A five-course interactive outdoor dining experience in the hotel's garden gazebo. Prepared by the chef and finished tableside. Wine pairing included. R$890 per person. Available 7:30pm-10:30pm, subject to availability and weather. Must book at least 48 hours ahead. Over 18s only.
