Wine-obsessed boutique hotel in a handsome historic building. Exposed brickwork, restored fireplaces, dark-stained floorboards, and soft lighting. Smart but not stiff — the bistro feels genuinely relaxed, not performatively so.
The Cinema Suite is arguably the most interesting room in the building — original fireplace, vaulted ceilings, private terrace, and a private mini-cinema. Good for a special occasion.
Why It Matters
One of the first genuinely boutique hotels to land in Cambridge, part of the Hotel du Vin group that pioneered wine-first hospitality in the UK since 1994. The building itself — a former university-owned property — has real character, and the food and wine offering is a cut above what you'd typically find in a chain hotel.
Forty-one individually styled rooms spread across a cluster of Grade II listed buildings a short walk from Pembroke College. The place runs on wine — bedrooms are named after wine producers (Wolf Blass gets the Signature Suite), there's a proper sommelier on the floor, and the Cellar Bar is the kind of spot you end up staying in longer than planned. It brought a real dose of boutique-hotel energy to a city that, for all its other charms, was a bit thin on interesting places to sleep.

The most distinctive room in the building. Original fireplace, vaulted ceilings, a private terrace, and a dedicated mini cinema room (bring your own streaming account). Ensuite with signature roll-top bath and walk-in monsoon shower. Good for a proper occasion.
Super King
Classic Room
Entry-level rooms that don't feel entry-level. Rich warm tones, handsprung mattress, Egyptian cotton linen. Most have a bath as well as the monsoon shower — two standard rooms don't have a bath, so worth specifying at booking if that matters to you.
Queen, King, or TwinDeluxe Room
More space than the Classic, king bed, deep bath alongside the monsoon shower. The kind of room where the evening sun streams through the window while you work through the wine list before heading downstairs.
KingJunior Suite
Up in the attic, each one individually designed. Open-plan layout with a sitting area, bespoke furniture, and impressive roll-top baths. The sloped ceilings and unique layouts give these genuine character — no two are identical.
Super KingSignature Suite
Named Wolf Blass after the Australian wine producer. The hero feature: a rotating TV that faces either the 8ft emperor bed or the two copper roll-top baths. Lovingly maintained original features, bespoke furniture, separate walk-in monsoon shower. The top room in the house.
Emperor (8ft)Suite
More spacious than the Junior Suites, with free-standing roll-top bath plus a separate monsoon shower. Historic features are well preserved. The seating is versatile enough for lounging or working.

Served daily in the bistro or lounge, 12pm to 3pm. Sandwiches, cakes, and scones in a relaxed, unhurried setting.
Five-course seasonal tasting menu paired glass by glass with selected wines from the list. A vegan version is also available. Available at the Bistro du Vin.
The Cinema Suite comes with a dedicated mini cinema room. Guests bring their own streaming account and can use the setup for a private screening experience. Unique to this room.
Private dining rooms available for special occasions and group events. The Lombard Room is one of the named dining spaces. Bespoke menus available including a 'Taste du Vin' group dining option.
The hotel's in-house sommelier runs guided wine tasting experiences — from French classics to New World wines. Wine is genuinely central to how this hotel operates, not just a marketing line. The 'Taste du Vin' 5-course tasting menu with paired wines is the most structured expression of this.
