Hotel El Zarzo Medellín
Sleek urban boutique with an eco-conscious edge. Warm but minimal — concrete ceilings, natural materials, curated details everywhere. The vibe is sophisticated without being stuffy. Think a well-traveled local's idea of the perfect neighborhood hotel.
Request a quiet room when booking — rooms on the side closer to the neighboring club can have noise issues Thursday through Saturday until around 4am. The hotel provides earplugs, which tells you something.
Why It Matters
One of the few places in Medellín where the architecture, the restaurant (Cocina 33, led by Latin America's 50 Best-recognized chef Mane Mendoza), and the rooftop bar all actually deliver. Michelin Guide listed. Ranked #1 on TripAdvisor among Medellín B&Bs and inns. Sustainability is baked into the design, not just marketing copy.
Hotel El Zarzo is a compact, 16-room boutique hotel right in the middle of Provenza — the block in El Poblado that Medellín locals actually want to hang out in. The building makes an immediate impression: lush greenery pours from high-arching windows so that the brick facade looks like a living vertical garden. Inside, it's all native wood paneling, slate-tiled bathrooms, and rooms named after cocktails. Completed in 2023 by ALH Taller de Arquitectura, it's genuinely new and genuinely well-designed.
