Hotel Escondido Oaxaca
Minimal Brutalist meets colonial Oaxaca. Ochres and off-whites dominate, the corridors are quiet, and the rooftop pool is a proper sky perch above the historic center. It feels more like a gallery than a hotel.

Why It Matters
Part of Grupo Habita — the design-forward Mexican hotel group — and a Member of Design Hotels. Listed on the 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Hot List. The property sits inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site neighborhood, and the architecture by Alberto Kalach has become a reference point for heritage-meets-contemporary hotel projects in Mexico.
A 12-room boutique hotel that stitches together a 19th-century colonial casona and a new Brutalist tower designed by architect Alberto Kalach. The old building holds the restaurant, bar, Culture Room, and four rooms; the contemporary tower adds eight more. Every piece of furniture was made locally from sabino wood, and the textiles, robes, and rugs were produced by Oaxacan artisans — so even the small stuff feels considered.
