Why It Matters
One of the first design hotels in Montreal when it opened in 2002, Hotel Gault set the tone for the area's gentrification. The building is an 1871 registered heritage property, yet every interior choice pushes hard toward the present. Recognized by Condé Nast Traveler and recipient of the I Prefer Members' Choice Award in both 2023 and 2024.
This is Old Montreal's strongest argument that a 19th-century stone shell and genuinely contemporary design can coexist without apology. The building dates to 1871 — a five-storey Second Empire warehouse with a grey limestone facade and ornate mansard roof, built for cotton merchant Andrew F. Gault. Inside, the contrast is the whole point: polished concrete floors, cast-iron columns painted white, enormous French windows flooding every room with light, and mid-century classics from Knoll and Herman Miller. Only 30 suites means the staff actually knows your name. Rooms run from 350 to 1,020 square feet and no two feel identical.

Corner position means windows on two sides and a flood of natural light. More expansive feel than the Junior Suite, with the same polished concrete and Knoll/Herman Miller furnishings that run throughout the property.
Deluxe Apartment
The top of the Gault's range and genuinely spacious by any standard — over 1,000 square feet. Separate living and dining area, full kitchenette, wet bar, soaking tub, and king bed. Multiple flat-screen TVs. Feels more like a pied-à-terre than a hotel room. Families with connecting needs should ask specifically about this category.

Junior Suite
A step up from the Lofts, with exposed brick or stone walls that add real texture and warmth. Includes a workspace, elevated ceiling height in most cases, and a more generous bathroom. Canadian artwork on display in many units.
Loft King
The bigger loft option. Same industrial-contemporary bones as the Queen — concrete floors, oak cabinetry, full-height windows — but meaningfully more floor space. Still open-plan, still no separate sitting area, but noticeably roomier.

Loft Queen
Entry-level room that still puts most hotels' standard doubles to shame. Open-plan layout with polished concrete floors, custom Mondrian oak cabinetry, and big French windows. Heated bathroom floor, flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, and Ruby Brown bath amenities. Some have exposed brick or stone panels; a few can feel a touch spare on decor.
Queen · 32.5 sqmTerrace Suite
The ones guests consistently mention wanting back. Same suite layout and amenities as the standard suites but with a private (or semi-private) outdoor terrace overlooking Old Montreal's rooftops. In a neighborhood where private outdoor space is almost unheard of at hotels, this is a real differentiator. Upper floors come with panoramic views.
