Hotel Gault
Industrial-contemporary loft hotel. Think SoHo-meets-Old Montreal — raw architectural details doing the heavy lifting, furniture doing the rest. Art from local Canadian artists throughout, open-plan rooms, zero fussiness.
Book a Terrace Suite for the private outdoor space — rare in Old Montreal and worth the step up.
Why It Matters
One of the first design hotels in Montreal when it opened in 2002, Hotel Gault set the tone for the area's gentrification. The building is an 1871 registered heritage property, yet every interior choice pushes hard toward the present. Recognized by Condé Nast Traveler and recipient of the I Prefer Members' Choice Award in both 2023 and 2024.
This is Old Montreal's strongest argument that a 19th-century stone shell and genuinely contemporary design can coexist without apology. The building dates to 1871 — a five-storey Second Empire warehouse with a grey limestone facade and ornate mansard roof, built for cotton merchant Andrew F. Gault. Inside, the contrast is the whole point: polished concrete floors, cast-iron columns painted white, enormous French windows flooding every room with light, and mid-century classics from Knoll and Herman Miller. Only 30 suites means the staff actually knows your name. Rooms run from 350 to 1,020 square feet and no two feel identical.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Small on-site gym accessible 24 hours by elevator — no need to pass through the lobby. Two machines, towels and water bottles provided. Honest caveat: it is tiny. Guests who take their workouts seriously may find it limiting.
The hotel's most popular activity add-on. Bota Bota is a contemporary spa fashioned from a historic ferryboat moored at the Old Port, a 10-minute walk away. Scandinavian-style water circuits — hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, cold baths, relaxation areas — plus treatment rooms. Book through the Preferred Curations package for the best rate with included water circuit access.
Hotel packages are available for the Scandinave Spa Vieux-Montréal, an urban spa in Old Montreal offering the ancient Scandinavian baths tradition — hot/cold contrast pools, steam baths, and relaxation areas in a beautifully designed space.
The concierge team can arrange area tours, excursions, and activities around Old Montreal — including guided historic walking tours, Montreal zipline, Phi Centre cultural experiences, and more.
A cozy reading and informal gathering room with a fireplace. Good for post-dinner drinks, informal business conversations, or just unwinding with a book. The space is also available for small private events.
Six meeting rooms accommodating 10 to 150 guests. The Gault Room and Frederick Room are named spaces for business gatherings. Available for corporate meetings, off-site strategy sessions, cocktail receptions, and client events. Full AV technology, personalized service.
DVD and Blu-ray rental available for use with the in-room players. A throwback amenity that actually gets used.
