Why It Matters

Hotel ICON is owned by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University — making it the world's first fully integrated teaching and research hotel. That backstory explains quite a lot. The service is genuinely attentive (staff are being trained here, so they try harder), and the overall design is serious: Sir Terence Conran did the restaurants, Patrick Blanc installed Asia's largest indoor vertical garden in the lobby, and Vivienne Tam designed one of the suites. Rooms start at a generous 36 sqm, all face either the city or Victoria Harbour, and the rooftop pool overlooking the skyline is one of the best hotel pools in Kowloon.
